As local police fails to solve bulgalaries

By Pradeep Gupta

Concerned over the rising incidents of daylight bulgalaries in Powai, the Crime Branch has despatched a team of sleuths to the area to crack the crimes which have left local residents in a state of shock.

Joint Commissioner of Police 9Crime ),Rakesh Maria, told this news paper yesterday. "we have dispatched men from our anti-property theft unit to powai. They are based there to crack the thefts and nab the culprits."

Several incidents of day ligh break-ins have been reported from some posh localities in Powai over the past month. In latest incident,a flat on the 3rd floor of a building (Sulekha Apartments) was broken into on Saturday afternoon and cash, jewellery and expensive music systems were stolen. The owner of a flat had been out and when they retuned home at around 5pm,they were shocked to find their home ranshacked and valuables stolen.

The first incident took place nearly a month ago when a villa owned by Virdhi family was burgled as the family had been to Shirdi for 'Darshan'. A friend of theirs was,in fact, staying in the house overnight. But just as he left the next morning for work, the bulgars broke in and stole cash and jewellery worth Rs 12akh.

According to Senio police inspector,Rajdoot Rupawate, the serial bulglaries seem to be the handiwork of a local gang which somehow manages to keep a close track on their targets.

"They seems to know exactly when people are in the house and when they are not". Roopvate, who is being heavily criticized by the residents for not being able to solve the thefts, told this news paper.

But DCP (Crime ,Deven Bharti, said, "We do have some clues,so we are confident of cracking the thefts."
